CAMS 2017

This last weekend I attended a local hobby show, the Capital Area Modellers Society 29th Annual Spring Classic Scale Model Show. It was a lot of fun, I met a lot of different modellers and hung out with another local Gunpla builder; Patrick his blog can be found here if you are interested.

I was actually a little bit disappointed by the lack of other sci-fi entries this year, they were few and far between. Fortunately I think we've harassed a good number of new or maybe newer Gunpla builders for next year. I think it will be a good trend.

So like last year I took four entries, first up is the HGLM Evangelion Unit 04, now this kit I no longer own. As I originally intended: a friend of mine gave me his own copy of the kit as a birthday present, but I know he's a massive Neon Genesis Evangelion fan so this one will be calling his shelf home.

Next up, is my RG Heavy Zaku, I'm still pretty pleased with how this kit turned out, but at this point its still not really done, I've gotta finish up its matching units and the diorama to go with.

Now this one is not something I've ever posted anywhere at all, between when I built this last year and now I'm pretty sure I forgot that I actually built it. Anyway after I built it this kit actually belongs to my dad who wanted a cool looking transformer type, so a Bandai VF-25s Super Messiah Valkyrie seemed like a good fit at the time.

Fourth and finally a KG-6 Sleipnir by Kotobukiya. Now as I've said before I've had this kit prepped since around this time last year with the intent of entering it in last years CAMS show, but I just couldn't find a good shade of orange so I'm glad I got it ready to go for this year.

Completed Kits #22: KG-6 Sleipnir

Yet another Kotobukiya painted orange! this one even more so than the last one.
Like that kit I've built this for a local hobby show, CAMS 2017.

So I started this kit around this time last year, but never finished until just recently, it was a good mix of sheer laziness and that I just couldn't find a shade of orange that was a good fit. I did all of the prep work when I was working on it last year but I managed to lose the photos (or more likely just neglected to take any at the time).

Anyway, I have finished it up properly now; the orange is a New Haven Orange by Badger Flex, I had the absolute worst time trying to spray this stuff it supposedly pre-thinned but it wasn't spraying well so I then thinned it and it still wouldn't spray cleanly. Anyway the rest of my colour selection are the usual culprits Vallejo paints and pigments. I felt that this kit needed some really heavy weathering to make it fit in the show it comes from where its considered to be less than a grunt.

Completed Kits #21: HGLM Evangelion Unit 04

It took some work to get it done, but I'm pretty pleased with the finished kit. This was also my very first attempt at anything even remotely diorama like, and I'm pretty happy with how that turned out too.

That all said I think there are a few things I could have done better, I really should have scribed the panel lines a bit deeper across the kit, just to make the lines pop a bit more. I also would've liked to build spears that were more anime accurate but they seemed like a bit of a nightmare to build properly.
